How Virtual Therapy Works
Providing Everything You Need To A Full Recovery

What Is Virtual
Physical Therapy?
Virtual physical therapy occurs when therapists offer their expertise through telehealth methods. Instead of going to a physical location, patients interact with a certified virtual therapist over the phone or through video, attending sessions from their own space.

Different areas of physical therapy make use of telehealth, which can work well for individuals who don’t need direct physical assistance from their therapist. For example, online sessions are ideal for teaching patients about their care and can enhance traditional face-to-face appointments.

Before the COVID-19 outbreak, virtual physical therapy was mostly limited to specific public entities, such as Veterans Affairs. The pandemic’s onset, however, forced a swift adoption of remote therapy options. Within a year, about 47% of all physical therapy appointments included telehealth elements.

Does Virtual Physical Therapy Work?
While research is still ongoing, considering the relatively new nature of telehealth, studies have shown that treatment outcomes for virtual physical therapy appear to be on par with the outcomes for face-to-face physical therapy sessions.
Telehealth physical therapy offers little to no patient risk, especially when virtual PT can identify when sessions are helpful and if they have access to the necessary tools to support telehealth.
